2016, The Year for Federal Legalization

Passing the 2016 Industrial Hemp Farming Act (Bills S.134 and H.R.525) in congress this year will be a major victory for the American people, indeed all people because it will finally free our great ingenuity and inventiveness to create this new industry.

Using today’s technology, just how many different products can we make out of this “King” of all raw materials?  For those of us that dream about a more sustainable world, this question inspires hope and excitement about the future and sets the mind to work on imagining what our new industrial hemp industry will look like.

What niche can America fill in the emerging global hemp market?  What sections of the country are best suited for growing massive quantities?  What factories can be retooled?  There is a lot to figure out, but first…

We Need Your Help To Pass the 2016 Industrial Hemp Farming Act.

VoteHempPlease visit the VOTE HEMP website (votehemp.com) and fill out their simple, quick, petition letter.

Then print out the “Postcards To Congress” (in our “recent posts” section) and mail to congressional members from your state.

Change The World…Via Hemp

IMG_0885The world is changing Via Hemp, and our second year as a company in this emerging market is yet another testament to that fact.  2014 was an historic year, 2015 was a year of growth and 2016 will be a year to really see the blossoming of this industry in Colorado and beyond.  For the second time in over half a century industrial hemp was planted, harvested, processed, and is now being sold throughout Colorado and beyond.

Via Hemp is proud to have been a part of that, but now what?  How do we continue to build momentum and move forward in 2016, while dealing with the challenges that come with creating any new industry, especially this one?  Forming partnerships with great organizations like Vote Hemp, the National Hemp Association and the Colorado Hemp Education Association, CHEA is certainly key.

Educating, first ourselves, and then others about all the things this miraculous plant has proven it can do is also critical to creating the industry.  Add today’s technology and Via Hemp believes we really can change the world.

With over 25,000 different uses for Industrial hemp our focus in 2016 is on providing a marketplace for the sale of a wide variety of high quality non-psychoactive hemp products grown and manufactured right here in the USA.  We’ve accomplished a lot in our first two years and look forward to the great events planned for 2016.  Visit our “Events” section for more info.

Industrial Hemp:  Our Past & Our Future

Jeffpic1 Like our founding fathers, Via Hemp believes that the cultivation of the industrial hemp plant is essential for both the economic & ecological success of our nation, and indeed our planet.

“Hemp is of the first necessity to the wealth and protection of the country”  Thomas Jefferson

Unlike the days of our founding fathers, farmers today in the USA are prohibited from growing this vital, non-psychoactive crop.  Via Hemp is passionate about changing this unjust and unconstitutional equation.   We work with our partners to change federal policy and develop new markets in states like Colorado where, as of January 2014, it will again be legal to grow. State support for legalization continues to grow, but the struggle remains in getting the federal government to reclassify it from its current status as a Schedule 1 drug like Heroin.  Recent lobbying efforts are getting us closer, but we all need to keep pushing this issue.  Via Hemp is committed to supporting Industrial Hemp lobbyists through crowd-source funding projects, and giving back 10% to organizations like VoteHemp.com A few facts about the benefits of hemp illustrate how important its growth, processing, manufacture and consumption is for our health and the health of the planet.Hempfield1

  • 1 acre of hemp will produce as much fiber as 3 acres of cotton.  Hemp is stronger, lasts 2x longer, doesn’t mildew, and doesn’t require pesticides & herbicides like cotton.
  • 1 acre of hemp will produce as much paper as 4 acres of trees.  Hemp paper is superior and requires less toxic chemicals in the manufacturing process.  Trees take years to grow, Hemp is ready for harvest in just 4 months.  Hemp absorbs 5x more carbon than trees and also gives off more oxygen.
  • And Food!  No other plant can compare with the nutritional value of hempseeds.  It contains all 21 known amino acids and has more protein per gram than meat or cheese.

The saddest fact is that Industrial Hemp was once the most widely grown crop in the world, until the early 1900′s when it became a threat to the financial interest of the timber, petro-chemical, and pharmaceutical industries.

“Why use up the forests which were centuries in the making, and the mines which required ages to lay down, if we can get the equivalent of forest and mineral products in the annual growth of the hemp fields?” Henry Ford

Needless to say, the absurd prohibition must stop.  Like never before in our History must we heed our Founding Father’s words by organizing and demanding it stop… as long as it takes to get hundreds of thousands of acres of Industrial Hemp cleaning the air, the soil, and our bodies.  It’s gonna happen, folks, momentum is growing.

Via Hemp is excited to be a part of this “history in the making”, bringing news about current industry issues and events, as well as becoming a place to promote industrial hemp by selling an ever growing list of great hemp products.  Thanks for supporting us in any way you can – Jackie Chenoweth - Via Hemp CEO & Founder
